Lake Mead National Recreation Area

Lake Mead National Recreation Area

1.5 Million acres of recreation

There's fun for everyone at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area (NRA). Its huge lakes satisfy the likes of boaters, swimmers, sunbathers, wakeboarders, jet skiers, fishermen. The Mojave, Great Basin, and Sonoran deserts all meet in the Lake Mead NRA, making the area ripe with adventure for hikers, photographers, and sightseers. You may just spot a plant or animal species that can't be found anywhere else in the world.

A Historic Railroad Trail provides views of Lake Mead. Hikers travel through five large tunnels and experience a portion of the railroad route that ran from Boulder City to Hoover Dam from 1931 to 1961. Please visit Historic Railroad Trail for more information.
